Strava has launched AI Coach, a new feature that generates personalized weekly training plans based on your activity history, goals, and recovery metrics. The feature is free for Strava subscribers and integrates directly with the Strava mobile app.

How it worksAI Coach analyzes your activity history (rides, runs, swims) and recovery metrics (rest days, sleep if you have a connected wearable). It generates a weekly plan with 4-6 specific workouts, each tied to a goal (endurance, threshold, recovery, etc.). The plan adapts weekly based on your completed activities and perceived exertion.

Goals and targetsAI Coach supports six goal types: endurance build, FTP improvement, race preparation (specific event), weight loss, return from injury, and general fitness. For each goal, the AI generates a 12-16 week progressive plan.

How it compares to competitorsTrainingPeaks has offered AI-driven training plans for years but at a higher price point ($239/year vs. Strava's $80/year). Zwift's AI Coach (released 2024) is similar but only generates plans that work with Zwift workouts. TrainerRoad has AI-driven plan generation built into its structured training subscription.Strava's AI Coach is the most accessible option for recreational cyclists. For athletes who need precise periodization (peak for specific races, taper management), TrainingPeaks remains the gold standard.

LimitationsAI Coach doesn't integrate with power meter data unless you sync from a head unit (Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead). It doesn't generate indoor trainer workouts (Zwift or TrainerRoad structured workouts). It doesn't manage recovery or readiness metrics 鈥?that's left to your wearable (WHOOP, Oura, Garmin).

AvailabilityFree for Strava subscribers. Available in the Strava mobile app (iOS and Android). Desktop integration coming later in 2026.
