Polar has rolled out firmware update v2.4 for the Vantage V4, adding native power-based cycling training zones. Until now, Vantage V4 owners had to compute their cycling FTP manually and enter it as a generic sport setting.

New capabilitiesAutomatic FTP detection from cycling power data (when paired with a Bluetooth power meter)Support for power-based structured workouts synced from Polar FlowIndoor trainer mode with ERG-mode power targets on the wristImproved Cycling Performance Index calculation (now uses 60-day rolling window)

Why it mattersUntil now Garmin and Wahoo have owned the multi-sport watch + cycling computer integration. Polar鈥檚 update narrows the gap significantly for triathletes and duathletes who want one watch for both running and cycling training load. The Vantage V4 also still has the best optical HR accuracy in our testing 鈥?and now it can finally be paired with that accuracy to cycling power zones.
