Stage 1 — Visma–Lease a Bike wins the TTT, Vingegaard takes yellow

Visma–Lease a Bike won the opening 19.6 km team time trial in Barcelona, putting Jonas Vingegaard into the first yellow jersey of the 113th Tour de France. Tadej Pogačar's UAE Team Emirates-XRG finished 12 seconds slower on a brutally short TTT format that punishes any squad without a pure rouleur core.

Visma's TTT engine delivered

A short 19.6 km TTT punishes teams that cannot sustain 53–55 km/h for the full distance. Visma's roster — Van Baarle, Affini, Campenaerts, Armirail, Kuss and Piganzoli around Vingegaard — is built for exactly this format. Filippo Ganna, the individual time-trial benchmark, dragged Netcompany Ineos to second at +8 seconds. UAE's 12-second deficit is recoverable in the Pyrenees but forces Pogačar to attack at Les Angles on Stage 3 rather than defend.

Evenepoel quiet, Seixas announces himself

Red Bull-Bora's +0:19 to Evenepoel is worse than UAE but better than Lidl-Trek and the field. Florian Lipowitz sits +0:35 in GC. Red Bull's co-leadership structure stays intact after day one.

Paul Seixas, the 19-year-old Decathlon debutant, finished +0:39 in 10th — the best young rider time on the road. All GC rivals under 26 — Ayuso +0:16, Lipowitz +0:35, Lenny Martinez +0:50 — finished behind him. The white jersey starts on Seixas's shoulders.

Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin) was 11th at +0:39, keeping Alpecin's lead-out structure intact for the green-jersey fight.

What it means for Stage 2

Stage 2 (Tarragona → Barcelona, 168.5 km) finishes on the Alt del Montjuïc with a double ascent. Expect UAE to ride defensively at the front to keep the 12-second GC buffer — no GC fireworks until Stage 3.
