Stage 10 - Pogačar wins the Le Lioran summit, opens 1'03" GC lead

Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) won Stage 10 at Le Lioran with a devastating 4-km attack on the final climb, the first real mountain stage of the 2026 Tour. Jonas Vingegaard (Visma–Lease a Bike) crossed 25 seconds later after a controlled descent; Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora) was third at 0:38. Pogačar now leads the GC by 1'03" — the largest margin after Stage 10 of any Tour since 2019.

Pogačar's race-winning move

The Cantal stage was always the one to watch: 3,900 m of climbing packed into 167 km, with the Col de Font de Cère (HC) and the Pas de Peyrol (HC) preceding the 13.3 km Le Lioran summit. UAE set tempo from the foot of Font de Cère, with del Toro doing 4 km at 6.2 W/kg to thin the group. On the lower slopes of Le Lioran, Pogačar waited until 4 km to go — exactly where the road kicks to 9.4% — then accelerated once.

Vingegaard followed for 1.2 km before easing. Evenepoel cracked at 2.5 km to go, lost 13 seconds to Vingegaard in the final 2 km, and now sits 26 seconds behind the Dane instead of the 7 he trailed by at the start of the day. Pogačar crossed 25 seconds ahead of Vingegaard, his biggest single-day GC swing since Stage 16 of the 2024 Tour.

Lipowitz cracks, Gall falls out of contention

Florian Lipowitz — third in the 2025 Tour at age 24 — was the biggest loser of the day. The German lost contact on the Pas de Peyrol, never made it back, and crossed 1'37" down. He drops from 6th to 7th in GC and now trails Pogačar by 2'39". The Red Bull co-leadership structure (Evenepoel + Lipowitz) is now a one-rider race.

Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA-CGM) was dropped on the Font de Cère and lost 2'54". The 2024 KOM winner is now outside the top 10 in GC and out of podium contention.

What it means for the run to Toulouse

Wednesday's Stage 11 (Aurillac → Toulouse, 211 km) is a flat transition stage the sprinters' teams will fight to control. Thursday's Stage 12 (Gaillac → Puy Mary, 162 km, 3,100 m) is the second Cantal stage with a summit finish at the Puy Mary volcanic peak — Pogačar has a chance to put the GC out of reach before the Pyrenees rest day on Friday. Vingegaard's team will need a 30-second swing in the mountains to keep the Tour alive.
