Stage 2 — Isaac del Toro wins in Barcelona, UAE takes 1-2

Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) won Stage 2 of the 2026 Tour de France at the Montjuïc finish in Barcelona, beating team leader Tadej Pogačar in the final uphill sprint. Vingegaard finished in the same time to keep yellow — but Pogačar's 6-second time bonus cut the GC gap from +0:12 to +0:06, the smallest margin possible.

UAE's 1-2 in Barcelona

Del Toro's 10" win and Pogačar's 6" second place mean UAE now hold both result-cards: a stage winner and a yellow-jersey chaser one stage away. Pogačar's pre-race quote — "I hope Del Toro takes this Tour GC" — gets a literal response on day 2. The Mexican climber, 21, delivered the win on the same Montjuïc finish that closed the 2009 Tour.

Evenepoel stays in the fight

The Olympic champion took third (+4" bonus) and sits +0:09 in GC. He has now finished top-three on both opening stages. Red Bull-Bora's co-leadership is intact after the first mountain-style finish.

Seixas confirms U25 lead

The 19-year-old Frenchman finished 9th, +0:03 — same time as Skjelmose, Martinez and Pidcock. He holds the white jersey and stays in the top 15 GC at +0:39.

What it means for Stage 3

Stage 3 (Granollers → Les Angles, 195.9 km) is the first true mountain stage. The route hits the Pyrenees hard. Pogačar will test Vingegaard on the final climb to Les Angles. UAE's 1-2 punch (Pogačar + del Toro) means they have the numbers to attack Visma's three-pronged defence (Vingegaard, Kuss, Jorgenson).
