Stage 6 - Pogačar wins the Tourmalet, takes yellow

Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates XRG) won Stage 6 in Gavarnie-Gèdre at the top of the Tourmalet, the first true mountain stage of this Tour, and reclaimed the Maillot Jaune from Torstein Træen. Jonas Vingegaard limited his losses to 38 seconds; Remco Evenepoel is 51 seconds back.

Pogačar takes yellow back

The 186.2 km, 4,100 m-of-climbing stage from Pau to Gavarnie-Gèdre ends with the Tourmalet summit finish, the first time the Tour returns to the classic Pyrenean climb since 2022. Pogačar attacked inside the final 5 km of the Tourmalet and only Vingegaard could follow for a while, losing 38 seconds at the line. Evenepoel could not match either Pogačar's surge or Vingegaard's tempo and now sits 51 seconds back.

Træen's bubble bursts

Torstein Træen crossed the line 18 minutes down, ending the Uno-X leader's five-day run in yellow. The 4100 m of climbing was always going to be too much for the Norwegian's GC bubble to survive; he now drops out of the overall top 20.

Vingegaard the right side of the limit

Vingegaard paced himself well on the lower slopes of the Tourmalet and the Hourquette d'Ancizan before responding to Pogačar's acceleration near the top. Losing 38 seconds in a summit finish to Pogačar is a result Visma will take; the Danish rider stays in yellow-jersey striking distance for the Alps.

What it means for Stage 7

Stage 7 (Hagetmau → Bordeaux, 175 km, flat) is a pure sprinter's day and a rest day for the GC. The green-jersey race resumes: Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) leads on 108 points. Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step), Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) and Olav Kooij (Decathlon CMA-CGM) are the favourites.
