TL;DR
Cervélo redesigned the S5 in 2025 — the signature V-shaped seatstays are now deeper, integration is higher, and frame stiffness is up 8%. We tested the 56 cm complete bike (with SRAM Force AXS and Reserve 52|63 wheelset) for 1,800 km, including a 200 km long-distance race.
Unboxing & Design
Packaging is the usual Cervélo hard-shell travel-case level — internal frame protector, spares box, serial number card. Reserve wheelset is in a separate box, DT hubs come pre-trued.
Setup & Installation
The bar is the HB13 integrated bar co-developed by Cervélo and Canyon, and requires a special tool to adjust the headset. Cables route from under the stem into the frame, which demands cable-routing skill. Recommended: bike shop install.
Real-World Data
At 40 km/h cruise at 200W, the new S5 is 7 watts faster than the previous-generation S5 (per Tour Magazine wind-tunnel data). On 5° climbs, the difference narrows to 2 watts. The 8% headtube stiffness improvement is more visible in sprints — at 500W out-of-saddle, the frame no longer has noticeable twist.
Long-Term Use
The V-shaped seatstays’ low-drag tradeoff is a forward saddle position — we recommend the bike for riders with under 100 mm drop. After 6+ hours of riding, neck pressure is clearly higher than on an endurance frame.
Competitor Comparison
Main competitors: Trek Madone SLR (lighter, more accessible integrated service ports), Specialized Tarmac SL8 (more all-round but slightly weaker aero), Canyon Aeroad CFR (better value, slightly less integration).
Final Verdict
If budget is generous and the use case is flat-road racing, the new S5 is one of the strongest aero road bikes today. We recommend an in-person bike fit before ordering.

Crosswind behavior is the 454 NSW’s standout. In a 25° crosswind (a straight crosswind), the 454 tracks noticeably better than the 858 NSW and the Reserve 52|63, with no measurable drag penalty at 0° yaw.
