TL;DR

The Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 is Shimano’s 2025 flagship 12-speed road groupset. Wired Di2 with Synchronized Shift (the front derailleur auto-shifts based on rear position) and best-in-class hydraulic disc brakes. $4,300 for the groupset (without crankset) or $5,100 with Hollowtech cranks. Tested over 2,500 km across road and gravel.

Unboxing & Design

Shimano packaging is functional: each component in its own labeled box, all necessary hardware and the E-Tube Di2 wire harness included. No proprietary tools needed for installation if you have standard bike shop tools.

Setup & Installation

Wired Di2 installation is a bike shop job — the wire routing through the frame is the time-consuming part. E-Tube Project app (free) does firmware updates and customization. Wireless Di2 shifting is not natively supported (you can add a wireless unit via the EW-WU111 kit, but it adds cost). Shimano’s Synchronized Shift is configurable in the app.

Real-World Data

Shift speed is about 30% faster than the previous Dura-Ace Di2 R9100, and about 30% faster than eTap AXS in our testing. The shift is so fast that the front derailleur can move under full load. Brake feel is the standout — the new 4-piston calipers with the new rotors have a very linear bite point. We measured 3-5% better braking power vs the R9100.

Long-Term Use

Dura-Ace Di2 is the best groupset for a wired electronic build where you want zero compromises. The wired Di2 has zero latency and zero battery anxiety (the battery in the seatpost lasts 2,000+ km). Wireless Dura-Ace (if it ever comes) might be better, but for now, wired is the most reliable.

Competitor Comparison

Main competitors: SRAM Red eTap AXS (wireless, $4,100), Campagnolo Super Record Wireless (wireless, $5,200). None match Dura-Ace’s shift speed and brake feel, but both offer wireless convenience.

Final Verdict

Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 is the right answer for a pro racer or a long-term warranty-conscious rider. Skip if you want wireless or DIY-friendly maintenance. The wired electronic build is not for everyone, but for those who commit to it, Dura-Ace is the best shifting and braking groupset on the market.

Crosswind behavior is the 454 NSW’s standout. In a 25° crosswind (a straight crosswind), the 454 tracks noticeably better than the 858 NSW and the Reserve 52|63, with no measurable drag penalty at 0° yaw.

Asymmetric design is most noticeable in two scenarios. First: in crosswinds, where the front wheel is the deeper 67 mm and the rear is the shallower 64 mm, which reduces side-force on the rear and keeps the bike more stable in gusts.
