Favero is a small Italian company that broke into the power-meter market in 2018 with a rechargeable pedal design. The Assioma DUO is the dual-sided version; a single-sided PRO MX-1 version is also available. The design has been refined across three hardware generations and is now considered the benchmark for pedal-based power.

Build & Design
The Assioma DUO pedals look and feel like a standard Look Keo pedal from the outside. The strain gauges and electronics are sealed inside the pedal body, with the charging contacts integrated into the end of the pedal spindle. A magnetic USB charging cable snaps onto the spindle end and charges both pedals simultaneously via a Y-cable.
The lack of a separate charging port is a thoughtful design choice. Sealed charging contacts cannot leak, cannot corrode, and cannot break. The pedals are also user-serviceable: the cartridge bearings can be replaced without sending the pedals back to Favero, which extends the practical lifespan to 5+ years.
The pedal body uses a stainless steel platform with a composite center, similar to a Look Keo Blade. The cleat engagement is positive and predictable; riders transitioning from non-power Keo pedals will find the engagement identical. Q-factor is 64mm (versus 60mm on standard Keo), which is slightly wider; riders with hip issues may want to test before committing.
Real-world Testing
Eighteen months of training and racing on the Assioma DUO produced consistent, reliable data. Real-world battery life tracked at 45-50 hours per charge, on par with the 50-hour claim. Charging from empty to full took roughly 2.5 hours. The magnetic USB charging cable is the smallest, most portable charger of any power-meter pedal on the market; carrying the Y-cable and a small USB power bank provides weeks of cord-free riding.
Comparison against a Quarq DZero crank-based power meter showed the Assioma DUO within 3-5 watts at threshold efforts and within 1-2 watts at steady-state tempo. Left-right balance data was consistent across repeated measurements to within 0.5%. Auto-zero calibration worked seamlessly; the pedals re-zero on every spin-up without manual intervention.
Power phase and platform center offset data was consistent with the Quarq reference across sprint efforts. The Assioma DUO delivers the same cycling-dynamics metrics as crank-based systems, with the added convenience of pedal-portability.
One limitation worth noting: the Look Keo only compatibility. Riders on SPD-SL must buy the Assioma DUO SH (SPD-SL-compatible) at a $50-100 price premium. Riders on Speedplay must look elsewhere. The Favero product line does not cover every cleat system, but the Look Keo and SPD-SL versions cover the majority of road cyclists.
