Mount the UT800 to a compatible out-front mount (the Garmin Edge out-front mount works), pair it with the Edge over ANT+, and the UT800 automatically turns on when the Edge starts a ride, and turns off when the ride ends. When paired with an Edge that supports auto-brightness (Edge 540 / 840 / 1040 / 1050), the UT800 automatically adjusts brightness based on speed and ambient light — full brightness when descending fast, low brightness when stopped at a traffic light, and high-visibility flash during the day.
Subjectively, the 800 lumens is sufficient for road riding on unlit country roads. Mountain bikers will want more (the Magene Recon HL1200 at 1200 lumens is brighter), but for road and gravel, 800 lumens is the sweet spot.
