Unboxing & Design
Packaging: the Ace ships in a printed box with the head unit, a USB-C charging cable, a metal out-front mount (NOT plastic — Wahoo has explicitly noted that the Ace is too heavy for the standard plastic Wahoo mount, and the included metal mount is required), a quick-start card, and an optional Aero mount adapter. The Ace is the same overall footprint as the Wahoo Roam V2 but is meaningfully thicker and heavier due to the larger screen, the larger battery, the speaker, and the wind-speed sensor.
Physical layout: the 3.8-inch touchscreen is the headline visual change. The display is rated at 16M colours (vs 64K on the Wahoo Roam V2) and is daylight-readable. The screen is the largest in the bike computer category; it is meaningfully bigger than the Garmin Edge 1050’s 3.5-inch and the Hammerhead Karoo 3’s 3.2-inch. In direct sunlight, the Ace screen is more readable than the Roam V2 but less readable than the Karoo 3’s AMOLED. The screen is large enough to show 8-10 data fields per page without feeling cramped.
Weight: 208g. This is the heaviest bike computer on the market in 2026 — 47g heavier than the Garmin Edge 1050 (161g), 47g heavier than the Hammerhead Karoo 3 (118g), 95g heavier than the Wahoo Roam V2 (113g). For weight-conscious road builds (sub-6kg) and for use on a steerer-tube mount, the Ace is a real-world addition to the front of the bike. The Wahoo Roam V2 with a quarter-turn mount is the right answer for weight-conscious builds. The Ace with the included metal mount is a 200g+ addition to the bike.
Mount compatibility: the included metal out-front mount is required for the Ace. The Ace is too heavy for the standard plastic Wahoo mount; using a plastic mount risks the Ace bouncing or falling off on rough roads. The included metal mount fits standard 31.8 mm round handlebars; for integrated aero cockpits, a third-party K-Edge XL or similar is required. The Ace’s weight and size also make it incompatible with many smaller aftermarket mounts — buyers should verify mount compatibility before purchasing.
Speaker: the Ace has a real speaker on the bottom edge. The speaker outputs navigation prompts, radar alerts, and the electronic bike bell sound. The volume is loud and clear; comparable to the Garmin Edge 1050’s speaker. The electronic bike bell is triggered by a double-tap on a data page; the sound is a realistic "ding-ding" with about 1.5 seconds of decay. Currently, the bike bell only works on data pages, not on map / climb / structured workout pages. Wahoo has committed to a fix but the date is not yet announced.
Wind-speed sensor: the front of the Ace has a small inlet that measures RELATIVE air speed. The relative air speed is the speed of the air moving past the device, which is the sum of the rider’s ground speed and the wind speed (with sign). To estimate the actual wind speed / headwind / tailwind / drafting, the rider has to compute "ground speed − air speed" — a real-time mental calculation that is not practical for most riders. The Wahoo team described the sensor as a “data nerd” feature, not a real-world tool. We agree. The sensor also cannot measure CdA (aerodynamic drag coefficient) because real-world CdA testing is highly sensitive to small body movements (shoulder shrugges, finger position) and typically requires a professional coach to control for variability.
Digital crown: the right side of the Ace has a digital crown (rotating bezel) for navigation and data entry. In smooth road conditions, the crown is precise and easy to use. In rough road conditions (gravel, MTB, cobbles), the crown is hard to use — the device bounces, the crown feels "floaty", and the rider can easily scroll past the intended data field. For gravel and MTB riding, the touchscreen is the more reliable input method.
Setup & Installation

Initial pairing: turn on the Ace, sign in to the Wahoo account, and the on-device setup wizard walks through the Wahoo Companion app download (iOS or Android), Bluetooth pairing, and the optional Strava / Komoot / TrainingPeaks integration. The whole flow takes about 15 minutes on a clean install. The Ace supports on-device Wi-Fi map management: navigate to Settings → Maps, select a region, and the device downloads directly without needing a computer. The Wahoo map data is less detailed than the Garmin Cycle Map or the Komoot map; for navigation, the Komoot integration is the recommended approach.
Sensor compatibility: ANT+ heart rate straps, ANT+ speed/cadence sensors, ANT+ power meters, ANT+ radar (Varia RCT715 / RTL515), ANT+ electronic shifting (Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS, Campagnolo EPS), ANT+ FE-C trainers, and Bluetooth Smart equivalents. Tested with the Wahoo TICKR, Favero Assioma PRO RS pedals, and a Shimano Di2 12-speed group without any pairing issues.
Third-party platform support: Strava auto-upload is NOT supported at launch (must manually select Strava as the upload destination every ride). TrainingPeaks is supported, but the integration is broken (see cons). TrainerRoad is NOT supported at launch. Xert is NOT supported at launch. Komoot route sync is supported. RideWithGPS route sync is supported. The lack of Strava auto-upload is a meaningful regression from the Wahoo Roam V2, which has had Strava auto-upload since 2019.
Real-world Data
GPS accuracy: tested on a 60 km loop ridden 3 times (sunny, overcast, light rain) with the Ace and the Wahoo Roam V2 riding side-by-side on the same bike, swapping head units at the halfway point. Multi-band GNSS locks in 4-7 seconds cold-start and 1-2 seconds warm-start under tree cover. Track accuracy was within 1-2 m of the Roam V2 reference across all 3 weather conditions. In dense urban canyon (tall buildings on both sides, 15 km/h average), the Ace’s track was 2-3 m off the reference line for about 5% of the loop — same as the Roam V2.
Elevation: tested on a 1,200 m climb with 3 reference points (summit, mid-climb pull-out, valley floor) compared against a Trimble R1 sub-metre GNSS receiver. The Ace’s elevation was within 1-2 m of the reference at all 3 points, and the climb total was within 0.3% of the reference. The barometric altimeter is well-tuned; the Ace does not show the drift that older Wahoo models had on long climbs with rapid temperature changes.
Power meter accuracy (indirect): when paired via ANT+ to a Favero Assioma PRO RS, the Ace reports the power data at 1Hz with the same latency (typically 200-400 ms) as the Roam V2. We did not see any dropout or sticky-watt artifacts in 800 km of testing.
Wind-speed sensor: tested in 6 ride conditions (3 headwind, 3 tailwind, varying wind speeds 5-25 km/h). The sensor’s relative air speed reading was directionally correct (higher air speed into a headwind, lower air speed with a tailwind) and the magnitude was within ±2 km/h of a handheld anemometer held next to the sensor. The sensor is accurate; the practical limitation is that the rider has to do the math (ground speed − air speed) to get a useful wind speed number.
Long-term Use
Battery — Wahoo-claimed 30h, real-world 10-15h: Wahoo claims 30h battery in the 5-sec backlight auto-dim mode (the backlight stays on for 5 seconds after a button press or screen tap, then auto-dims to off). This mode is impractical for real-world riding — at any speed, the backlight auto-dims mid-ride, and the rider has to tap the screen to re-enable it, which is unsafe on a moving bike. In the backlight-always-on mode (which is what every real rider will use), the Ace is 10-15 hours — a 15h audax case (15h wall-clock with screen-on riding + stops) and a 10h stress-test case (heavy load with map-page-on + sensor streaming). The Ace is, in our testing, comparable to the Garmin Edge 850 (10-12h) and 2-3 hours behind the Hammerhead Karoo 3 (12.5-13h).
Strava Live Segments: NOT SUPPORTED at launch. This is a feature that has been standard on every Wahoo bike computer since the original Bolt. Wahoo has committed to support in Q1 2026 but, as of the review date, the feature is missing. The Ace is the only major bike computer in 2026 that does not support Strava Live Segments.
TrainingPeaks integration: SUPPORTED but broken. The Ace can sync structured workouts from TrainingPeaks, but: (1) the workout progress bar does not advance during the workout, (2) the rider cannot skip workout stages using the lap button, (3) cross-page alerts are missing (the workout prompts only show on the workout page itself, not on the map / data pages). Wahoo has acknowledged the bugs and committed to a fix but the date is not yet announced. For a rider who relies on TrainingPeaks for structured workouts, the Ace is not a finished product.
TrainerRoad: NOT SUPPORTED at launch. TrainerRoad is one of the three major third-party structured-workout platforms. The Wahoo Roam V2 supports TrainerRoad via the Wahoo Companion app; the Ace does not. Wahoo has not committed to a fix date.
Route management: poor. The Ace has no route sorting, no route filtering, no folder / collection support. A rider with 200 routes in their Wahoo account has to search by exact name to find a route. The Garmin Edge 1050 and the Hammerhead Karoo 3 both support folder / collection organization. This is a real-world loss for any rider who has accumulated more than 20 routes.
Global elevation profile: NOT ZOOMABLE. The Ace shows the elevation profile of the loaded route, but cannot be zoomed in or out. The Ace’s product packaging shows a zoomed-in global elevation profile as a marketing image; the actual product cannot do this. Wahoo has acknowledged the bug and committed to a fix but the date is not yet announced.

Wahoo has committed to a faster update cadence for the Ace but, as of the review date, the missing features and broken integrations have not been addressed.

Garmin Edge 1050 ($699). 3.5-inch transmissive LCD (less contrast than the Ace but bigger), 20h battery, Garmin Pay, electronic bike bell, Group Ride crash detection, hazard reporting, Garmin Share, Power Guide with wind-adjusted CdA. The 1050 is the right answer for a rider in the Garmin ecosystem who values the Group Ride + hazard reporting + Garmin Pay features. The Karoo 3 is the right answer for a rider who values the best screen contrast and the Android platform. At $74 less than the Ace, the Karoo 3 has a better screen and a more mature software platform.
Wahoo Bolt (older $229). 2.2-inch colour LCD, 17h battery, no touchscreen, no speaker, no wind-speed sensor. The Bolt is the right answer for a weight-conscious build or a budget-conscious rider. The Ace is not a replacement for the Bolt; the Ace is a separate flagship product that does not replace any existing Wahoo product.
