We tested the KICKR MOVE over 1 month of solo and partner riding, comparing the motion to a third-party rocker plate reference. The headline: the motion is subtle but real, noticeable during sprints, useful during long steady-state sessions, and easy to lock out when you want a fixed platform. The MOVE is not a replacement for a full rocker plate (which gives left/right tilt as well as fore-aft), but it is the cleanest integrated motion solution on the market.

Unboxing & Design

The 2024 KICKR MOVE arrives in Wahoo’s standard double-box packaging. Inside the outer box: the trainer itself (with the motion deck pre-installed), the KICKR AXIS feet (pre-installed), a power cable, a cassette lockring tool, a paper quick-start guide, and the QR code for the Wahoo app. The motion deck is welded to the bottom of the trainer; it is not a user-installable accessory. The trainer weighs 21 kg assembled, compared to 16 kg for the 2022 KICKR V6.

The motion deck uses a curved channel with two roller assemblies. When the rider pushes forward, the trainer slides forward along the channel; when the rider pulls back, the trainer slides back. The motion is damped by elastomer blocks at the end of each travel direction. The travel is approximately ±7 cm fore and ±7 cm aft, for a total of ≈14 cm of available movement. The integrated lock switch is on the right-hand side of the trainer, near the power switch; pressing it locks the deck in place, removing all fore-aft motion.

Setup & Installation

Setup is identical to the 2022 KICKR V6: unfold the legs, lock the leg-locking pins, set the height adjustment, plug in the power, and turn the trainer on. The motion deck is pre-installed and does not require any user setup. Pairing the trainer to the Wahoo Fitness app is the same flow as the 2022 V6. Once paired, the trainer connects to Wi-Fi for automatic firmware updates (every 11 hours when idle).

One practical note: the motion deck adds about 5 cm of vertical height compared to the 2022 KICKR V6. Riders with low BB-to-trainer-clearance setups (e.g. some indoor trainer mats with built-in risers) should check clearance before installing. We did not experience clearance issues with a standard trainer mat.

Real-World Data

We tested the 2024 KICKR MOVE over 1 month of solo and partner riding, comparing the motion feel to a third-party rocker plate reference (which we will not name but which is the dominant indoor trainer motion accessory in the market). The reference rocker plate provides both fore-aft and left/right tilt; the MOVE provides fore-aft only.

TrainerRoad 30/30s (160 W to 450 W): the MOVE tracked prescribed wattage within 2–3 W during the steady-state portions. The transition from 160 W to 450 W took about 2.5 s, identical to the 2022 KICKR V6 reference data. The motion deck did not affect power accuracy in any way we could measure.

Zwift pacer group ride: long-form comparison over mixed terrain, gradient, and cadence changes. The MOVE’s reported power matched our reference data within 1–2% across 90 minutes of pacer-group riding. The motion is most noticeable during accelerations (slight fore-aft shift as the rider pushes forward) and during descents (the trainer returns to neutral as the rider sits back).

Steady-state threshold at 280 W (60 minutes): the motion deck reduces saddle fatigue noticeably compared to a fixed platform. The fore-aft shift lets the rider micro-adjust position every 5–10 minutes, which is the same micro-adjustment that happens on the road. Our partner (who does 3–4 hour indoor sessions) reported that the motion felt "less monotonous" than her fixed-platform KICKR V5.

Long-Term Use

Across 1 month of daily testing (1–2 h per day), the MOVE performed identically to the 2022 KICKR V6 in terms of power accuracy, road feel, and noise. The flywheel and resistance unit are unchanged; the only new mechanical component is the motion deck itself, which is robust and shows no wear over the test period.

The motion is more noticeable during sprints than during steady-state riding. At a full sprint, the rider will hit the end of the fore-aft travel with a noticeable "clunk" — the integrated motion channel is designed to soften the impact, but the impact is still audible. This is a function of the geometry: the rider can only travel so far before the trainer hits the end of its channel. The reference rocker plate (which is a separate platform) absorbs more of this impact, but it costs $300 and requires bolting on.

The integrated lock switch works as advertised: one press and the trainer is rigid, no motion. We tested this with a 60-minute threshold session at 280 W and confirmed that the power curve was unaffected by the lock. The lock is recommended for high-intensity interval work where the rider wants to push against a fixed platform.

Competitor Comparison

The 2024 KICKR MOVE is positioned at the top end of the smart trainer market. Direct competitors: the 2022 Wahoo KICKR V6 ($1,299) with a $300 rocker plate add-on ($1,599 effective, but split across two purchases), the Tacx Neo 2T (similar accuracy, integrated motion via the Neo’s "road feel" feature, no dedicated motion deck), the Elite Justo (newer entrant, no dedicated motion deck), and the Saris H4 (cheaper by ~$600, no motion at all). We rate the 2024 KICKR MOVE a buy for new buyers and a "skip unless you specifically want integrated motion" for V6 owners.
